El bario es un metal blando, plateado y reactivo. Al ser tan denso, el bario se utiliza habitualmente en algunas aleaciones, por ejemplo en buj\u00edas y cojinetes de bolas. En 2013, China, India y Marruecos eran los mayores productores mundiales de bario. En Estados Unidos, la barita se extrae principalmente en Nevada y Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div id=\"ultimate-heading-45236a21962080457\" class=\"uvc-heading ult-adjust-bottom-margin ultimate-heading-45236a21962080457 uvc-9880\" data-hspacer=\"no_spacer\"  data-halign=\"left\" style=\"text-align:left\"><div class=\"uvc-heading-spacer no_spacer\" style=\"top\"><\/div><div class=\"uvc-main-heading ult-responsive\"  data-ultimate-target='.uvc-heading.ultimate-heading-45236a21962080457 h2'  data-responsive-json-new='{\"font-size\":\"\",\"line-height\":\"\"}' ><h2 style=\"font-weight:bold;color:#1e73be;\">Relaci\u00f3n con la miner\u00eda<\/h2><\/div><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Hay que tener mucho cuidado en extraer la barita extra\u00edda con la menor contaminaci\u00f3n de residuos posible para reducir los costes de procesamiento. En algunos casos, es muy dif\u00edcil eliminar los residuos debido a la naturaleza y al tipo de yacimiento. En un yacimiento residual, un alto porcentaje del material son residuos, y los equipos de miner\u00eda actuales no son capaces de separar los residuos de arcilla. Por lo tanto, los residuos que contienen mineral se extraen y se transportan a la planta de tratamiento para su separaci\u00f3n. La barita estratificada que tiene una capa fina de esquisto, chert o argilita tambi\u00e9n se extrae y se transporta directamente a la planta de tratamiento con muy poca separaci\u00f3n de residuos. Si la zona de barita estratificada o de veta es lo suficientemente pura y de tama\u00f1o suficiente, la zona de mena puede explotarse para producir barita que cumpla las especificaciones sin necesidad de procesamiento adicional. En muchos casos, primero hay que eliminar los residuos de la pared colgante de la mena. Esta eliminaci\u00f3n permite que el equipo de miner\u00eda extraiga el mineral de forma m\u00e1s limpia y con menos contaminaci\u00f3n de residuos. Cuando el buzamiento de la barita es casi vertical, a veces se puede extraer la barita dejando los residuos a ambos lados del mineral.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div id=\"ultimate-heading-9266a219620804b2\" class=\"uvc-heading ult-adjust-bottom-margin ultimate-heading-9266a219620804b2 uvc-4577\" data-hspacer=\"no_spacer\"  data-halign=\"left\" style=\"text-align:left\"><div class=\"uvc-heading-spacer no_spacer\" style=\"top\"><\/div><div class=\"uvc-main-heading ult-responsive\"  data-ultimate-target='.uvc-heading.ultimate-heading-9266a219620804b2 h2'  data-responsive-json-new='{\"font-size\":\"\",\"line-height\":\"\"}' ><h2 style=\"font-weight:bold;color:#1e73be;\">Utiliza<\/h2><\/div><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Con diferencia, el principal uso de la barita es como \"agente de carga\" en la perforaci\u00f3n de pozos de petr\u00f3leo y gas natural. En este proceso, la barita se tritura y se mezcla con agua y otros materiales. A continuaci\u00f3n, se bombea al interior de la perforaci\u00f3n. El peso de esta mezcla contrarresta la fuerza del petr\u00f3leo y el gas cuando sale del suelo. De este modo, los operarios de las plataformas petrol\u00edferas y de gas evitan que el petr\u00f3leo y el gas se desprendan del suelo de forma explosiva. Actualmente, la mayor parte del consumo de barita en Estados Unidos se destina a esta aplicaci\u00f3n de perforaci\u00f3n. Sin embargo, el consumo de \"lodo\" de perforaci\u00f3n fluct\u00faa de un a\u00f1o a otro, ya que depende de la cantidad de perforaciones de exploraci\u00f3n de petr\u00f3leo y gas, que a su vez depende de los precios del petr\u00f3leo y el gas.<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, la barita se utiliza como aditivo de pinturas, esmaltes y pl\u00e1sticos, en la producci\u00f3n del llamado cristal de \"plomo\" o vidrio \"emplomado\", detiene la radiaci\u00f3n de los monitores de ordenador y los tubos de televisi\u00f3n, y como fuente de sustancias qu\u00edmicas de bario.<\/p>\n<p>La barita tiene la capacidad \u00fanica de absorber fuertemente los rayos X y gamma. Por eso se utiliza en medicina para pruebas especiales de rayos X en los intestinos y el colon. Tambi\u00e9n se mezcla con cemento para fabricar contenedores especiales para almacenar materiales radiactivos.
