En la naturaleza suele encontrarse como metal en niveles bajos en la mayor\u00eda de los suelos y en concentraciones m\u00e1s elevadas asociado a algunos minerales de cobre, plomo y zinc. El mineral de ars\u00e9nico m\u00e1s com\u00fan es la arsenopirita, un compuesto de hierro, ars\u00e9nico y azufre.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div id=\"ultimate-heading-47576a3dd8d8c55a3\" class=\"uvc-heading ult-adjust-bottom-margin ultimate-heading-47576a3dd8d8c55a3 uvc-5770\" data-hspacer=\"no_spacer\"  data-halign=\"left\" style=\"text-align:left\"><div class=\"uvc-heading-spacer no_spacer\" style=\"top\"><\/div><div class=\"uvc-main-heading ult-responsive\"  data-ultimate-target='.uvc-heading.ultimate-heading-47576a3dd8d8c55a3 h2'  data-responsive-json-new='{\"font-size\":\"\",\"line-height\":\"\"}' ><h2 style=\"font-weight:bold;color:#1e73be;\">Relaci\u00f3n con la miner\u00eda<\/h2><\/div><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>El ars\u00e9nico met\u00e1lico rara vez se encuentra en estado puro en la naturaleza. El mineral de ars\u00e9nico m\u00e1s com\u00fan es la arsenopirita, un compuesto de hierro, ars\u00e9nico y azufre. Otros minerales menos comunes contienen ars\u00e9nico, como el oropimente, el realgar y la enargita, que son sulfuros de ars\u00e9nico. La mayor parte del ars\u00e9nico no se obtiene de una mena mineral de ars\u00e9nico, sino como subproducto en el tratamiento de minerales de oro, plata, cobre y otros metales. Las leyes medioambientales exigen que el ars\u00e9nico se extraiga de las menas para que no llegue al medio ambiente en forma de efluentes gaseosos, fluidos o s\u00f3lidos.<\/p>\n<p>Los yacimientos de cobre y oro de Chile, Filipinas y muchos otros pa\u00edses contienen cantidades importantes de ars\u00e9nico. Sin embargo, muchos pa\u00edses producen ars\u00e9nico como subproducto de la fundici\u00f3n de minerales met\u00e1licos. China es, con diferencia, el mayor productor; Chile y Marruecos aportan cantidades importantes, y la producci\u00f3n de una docena de otros pa\u00edses con fundiciones de metales es menor.<\/p>\n<p>Estados Unidos no extrae ars\u00e9nico desde 1985 e importa todo el ars\u00e9nico met\u00e1lico y los compuestos de ars\u00e9nico que consume. Se recicla muy poco, salvo en los residuos de las f\u00e1bricas que elaboran compuestos de ars\u00e9nico y se han recuperado cantidades limitadas de ars\u00e9nico met\u00e1lico de la chatarra de semiconductores dearseniuro de galio (GaAs).<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div id=\"ultimate-heading-54646a3dd8d8c55de\" class=\"uvc-heading ult-adjust-bottom-margin ultimate-heading-54646a3dd8d8c55de uvc-2461\" data-hspacer=\"no_spacer\"  data-halign=\"left\" style=\"text-align:left\"><div class=\"uvc-heading-spacer no_spacer\" style=\"top\"><\/div><div class=\"uvc-main-heading ult-responsive\"  data-ultimate-target='.uvc-heading.ultimate-heading-54646a3dd8d8c55de h2'  data-responsive-json-new='{\"font-size\":\"\",\"line-height\":\"\"}' ><h2 style=\"font-weight:bold;color:#1e73be;\">Utiliza<\/h2><\/div><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>S\u00f3lo alrededor del 5% del consumo de ars\u00e9nico es del elemento met\u00e1lico. La mayor parte se utiliza para alear (mezclar) ars\u00e9nico con plomo, cobre u otros metales para usos espec\u00edficos. Como metaloide, el ars\u00e9nico es un semiconductor, como el silicio. Esto significa que conduce parte de la electricidad como un metal, pero no toda la electricidad que conducir\u00eda un verdadero conductor como el cobre. Por consiguiente, aproximadamente 1\/10 % de ars\u00e9nico se consume en la fabricaci\u00f3n de semiconductores de arseniuro de galio para su uso en electr\u00f3nica. Tambi\u00e9n se utiliza ars\u00e9nico en la fabricaci\u00f3n de vidrio.<\/p>\n<p>La mayor parte del consumo estadounidense se realiza en forma de arseniato de cobre y cromato (CCA), un producto qu\u00edmico utilizado como conservante de la madera para postes telef\u00f3nicos, postes de vallas, pilotes y vigas de cimentaci\u00f3n. El CCA reduce significativamente la putrefacci\u00f3n y elimina la destrucci\u00f3n de la madera por termitas, hormigas y otros insectos. Sin embargo, el uso del CCA se est\u00e1 eliminando progresivamente en EE.UU., por lo que se espera un importante descenso del mercado del ars\u00e9nico.<\/p>\n<p>Antiguamente, el uso m\u00e1s importante de los compuestos de ars\u00e9nico era como insecticida pulverizado en campos y huertos. Este uso ha desaparecido por completo en la mayor\u00eda de los pa\u00edses, debido a la naturaleza venenosa de los compuestos de ars\u00e9nico. La contaminaci\u00f3n por ars\u00e9nico es un problema en algunas aguas de pozo y puede estar asociada al drenaje de minas.<\/p>\n<p>El ars\u00e9nico no se recupera de ning\u00fan material de desecho ni en ning\u00fan programa de reciclaje.
