Esto es 2.000 grados m\u00e1s que el punto de fusi\u00f3n del acero y 1.000 grados m\u00e1s que la temperatura de fusi\u00f3n de la mayor\u00eda de las rocas. El molibdeno fue descubierto por Carl Wilhelm Scheele en 1778, y fue aislado y bautizado por Peter Jacob Hjelm en 1781.<\/p>\n<p>La fuente m\u00e1s importante de molibdeno es el mineral molibdenita; una cantidad menor se obtiene del mineral wulfenita. El molibdeno suele recuperarse como subproducto o coproducto de la miner\u00eda del cobre. Estados Unidos produce cantidades significativas de molibdenita. Los recursos de molibdeno son suficientes para satisfacer las necesidades mundiales en un futuro previsible.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando el molibdeno se encuentra en yacimientos de cobre de baja ley, suele extraerse a cielo abierto y recuperarse como subproducto de la refinaci\u00f3n del cobre. Como metal puro, el molibdeno se utiliza como filamento en bombillas, matrices para trabajar el metal y piezas de hornos. Se alea con el acero para hacerlo m\u00e1s fuerte y resistente al calor.
