Le baryum est un m\u00e9tal mou, argent\u00e9 et r\u00e9actif. En raison de sa densit\u00e9, il est couramment utilis\u00e9 dans certains alliages, par exemple dans les bougies d'allumage et les roulements \u00e0 billes. En 2013, la Chine, l'Inde et le Maroc \u00e9taient les principaux producteurs mondiaux de baryum. Aux \u00c9tats-Unis, la barytine est principalement extraite au Nevada et en G\u00e9orgie.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div id=\"ultimate-heading-26386a5f120c64f6c\" class=\"uvc-heading ult-adjust-bottom-margin ultimate-heading-26386a5f120c64f6c uvc-9838\" data-hspacer=\"no_spacer\"  data-halign=\"left\" style=\"text-align:left\"><div class=\"uvc-heading-spacer no_spacer\" style=\"top\"><\/div><div class=\"uvc-main-heading ult-responsive\"  data-ultimate-target='.uvc-heading.ultimate-heading-26386a5f120c64f6c h2'  data-responsive-json-new='{\"font-size\":\"\",\"line-height\":\"\"}' ><h2 style=\"font-weight:bold;color:#1e73be;\">Relation avec l'exploitation mini\u00e8re<\/h2><\/div><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Pour r\u00e9duire les co\u00fbts de traitement, il faut veiller \u00e0 ce que la barytine extraite soit aussi peu contamin\u00e9e que possible par les d\u00e9chets. Dans certains cas, il est tr\u00e8s difficile d'\u00e9liminer les d\u00e9chets en raison de la nature et du type de gisement. Dans un gisement r\u00e9siduel, un pourcentage \u00e9lev\u00e9 du mat\u00e9riau est constitu\u00e9 de d\u00e9chets et l'\u00e9quipement minier actuel n'est pas en mesure de s\u00e9parer les d\u00e9chets argileux. Par cons\u00e9quent, les d\u00e9chets contenant du minerai sont extraits et transport\u00e9s \u00e0 l'usine de traitement pour \u00eatre s\u00e9par\u00e9s. La barytine stratifi\u00e9e qui pr\u00e9sente une fine couche de schiste, de chert ou d'argilite est \u00e9galement extraite et transport\u00e9e directement \u00e0 l'usine de traitement, avec tr\u00e8s peu de s\u00e9paration des d\u00e9chets. Si la zone de barytine stratifi\u00e9e ou filonienne est suffisamment pure et de taille suffisante, la zone de minerai peut alors \u00eatre exploit\u00e9e pour produire de la barytine qui r\u00e9pondra aux sp\u00e9cifications sans autre traitement. Dans de nombreux cas, les d\u00e9chets situ\u00e9s sur la paroi du minerai doivent d'abord \u00eatre enlev\u00e9s. L'enl\u00e8vement des d\u00e9chets permet \u00e0 l'\u00e9quipement minier d'exploiter le minerai plus proprement et avec moins de contamination par les d\u00e9chets. Dans ce processus, la barytine est broy\u00e9e et m\u00e9lang\u00e9e \u00e0 de l'eau et \u00e0 d'autres mat\u00e9riaux. Elle est ensuite pomp\u00e9e dans le trou de forage. Le poids de ce m\u00e9lange contrebalance la force du p\u00e9trole et du gaz lorsqu'ils sont lib\u00e9r\u00e9s du sol. Cela permet aux op\u00e9rateurs de plates-formes p\u00e9troli\u00e8res et gazi\u00e8res d'emp\u00eacher la lib\u00e9ration explosive du p\u00e9trole et du gaz du sol. Actuellement, la majorit\u00e9 de la consommation de barytine aux \u00c9tats-Unis est destin\u00e9e \u00e0 cette application de forage. Toutefois, la consommation de \"boues\" de forage fluctue d'une ann\u00e9e \u00e0 l'autre, car elle d\u00e9pend de la quantit\u00e9 de forages d'exploration pour le p\u00e9trole et le gaz, qui d\u00e9pend \u00e0 son tour des prix du p\u00e9trole et du gaz.<\/p>\n<p>En outre, la barytine est utilis\u00e9e comme additif dans les peintures, les \u00e9maux et les plastiques, dans la production de cristal de plomb ou de verre plomb\u00e9, pour arr\u00eater les radiations des \u00e9crans d'ordinateur et des tubes de t\u00e9l\u00e9vision, et comme source de produits chimiques \u00e0 base de baryum.<\/p>\n<p>La barytine a la capacit\u00e9 unique d'absorber fortement les rayons X et les rayons gamma. C'est pourquoi elle est utilis\u00e9e en m\u00e9decine pour des tests radiologiques sp\u00e9ciaux sur les intestins et le c\u00f4lon. Elle est \u00e9galement m\u00e9lang\u00e9e \u00e0 du ciment pour fabriquer des conteneurs sp\u00e9ciaux utilis\u00e9s pour stocker des mati\u00e8res radioactives.
