Il s'agit d'un min\u00e9ral qui forme des roches. C'est l'un des mat\u00e9riaux naturellement transparents, mais il peut avoir des couleurs diff\u00e9rentes en pr\u00e9sence d'impuret\u00e9s. Les sp\u00e9cimens transparents sont utilis\u00e9s comme pierres pr\u00e9cieuses, telles que les saphirs et les rubis. Les rubis sont rouges en raison des traces de chrome pr\u00e9sentes dans le corindon. Toutes les autres couleurs de corindon transparent sont appel\u00e9es saphirs. Les saphirs bleu fonc\u00e9 sont bleus en raison de la pr\u00e9sence de titane et de fer.<\/p>\n<p>Le corindon synth\u00e9tique a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois en 1837 et c'est en 1903 que la fabrication du corindon a pris de l'ampleur. Synth\u00e9tis\u00e9 \u00e0 l'origine pour fabriquer des rubis, le corindon est aujourd'hui synth\u00e9tis\u00e9 pour fabriquer des lentilles pour satellites, du verre r\u00e9sistant aux rayures et d'autres mat\u00e9riaux optiques tr\u00e8s r\u00e9sistants.<\/p>\n<p>G\u00e9ologie : Le corindon est une variante m\u00e9tamorphique de la bauxite et appara\u00eet donc le plus souvent comme un gisement de bauxite m\u00e9tamorphos\u00e9e ou comme un schiste alumineux alt\u00e9r\u00e9. Il est exceptionnellement dense et presque aussi dur que le diamant. Le corindon de qualit\u00e9 gemme se trouve dans les cours d'eau, car sa densit\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9e fait que les morceaux se d\u00e9posent dans une r\u00e9gion locale et que sa duret\u00e9 le rend r\u00e9sistant aux intemp\u00e9ries.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div id=\"ultimate-heading-19276a20efc04496f\" class=\"uvc-heading ult-adjust-bottom-margin ultimate-heading-19276a20efc04496f uvc-9967\" data-hspacer=\"no_spacer\"  data-halign=\"left\" style=\"text-align:left\"><div class=\"uvc-heading-spacer no_spacer\" style=\"top\"><\/div><div class=\"uvc-main-heading ult-responsive\"  data-ultimate-target='.uvc-heading.ultimate-heading-19276a20efc04496f h2'  data-responsive-json-new='{\"font-size\":\"\",\"line-height\":\"\"}' ><h2 style=\"font-weight:bold;color:#1e73be;\">Utilisations<\/h2><\/div><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Voir l'aluminium.<\/p>\n<p>Le corindon est utilis\u00e9 comme abrasif parce qu'il a une duret\u00e9 de 9,0 et peut rayer presque tout. Il est utilis\u00e9 dans le papier de verre et dans les abrasifs industriels. Toutefois, aux \u00c9tats-Unis, les mati\u00e8res synth\u00e9tiques ont r\u00e9cemment commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 remplacer le corindon naturel en tant qu'abrasif de choix. Aux \u00c9tats-Unis, le corindon synth\u00e9tique est surtout utilis\u00e9 pour durcir les sols en b\u00e9ton \u00e0 usage intensif et pour fabriquer des mat\u00e9riaux antid\u00e9rapants sur les ponts.
