Cependant, seuls deux min\u00e9raux - la c\u00e9lestite et la strontianite - contiennent du strontium en quantit\u00e9s suffisantes pour en permettre la r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration, et ces min\u00e9raux se trouvent principalement dans les roches s\u00e9dimentaires. Le strontium est un \u00e9l\u00e9ment m\u00e9tallique jaune argent\u00e9. Le strontium appartient \u00e0 un groupe d'\u00e9l\u00e9ments connus sous le nom de m\u00e9taux alcalino-terreux. La c\u00e9lestite est le min\u00e9ral le plus courant dans les gisements \u00e9conomiques. Sa structure est similaire \u00e0 celle de la barytine, le sulfate de baryum. Une partie du strontium est utilis\u00e9e pour fabriquer des aimants sp\u00e9ciaux appel\u00e9s aimants c\u00e9ramiques en ferrite. Le strontium a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 pour fabriquer des compos\u00e9s qui sont appliqu\u00e9s sur les tubes d'image en verre des t\u00e9l\u00e9viseurs couleur.
