Un cristal de soufre se fissure au contact de la main, car la surface du cristal se r\u00e9chauffe plus rapidement que l'int\u00e9rieur. Le soufre fond \u00e0 108 degr\u00e9s Celsius. Le mot soufre signifie \"pierre br\u00fblante\" en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 sa provenance des volcans et au fait qu'il br\u00fble si facilement. Lorsque le soufre est br\u00fbl\u00e9, il se combine \u00e0 l'oxyg\u00e8ne pour produire du dioxyde de soufre, le SO<sub>2<\/sub>qui a une odeur \u00e2cre et piquante.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div id=\"ultimate-heading-88086a210a0c5bd36\" class=\"uvc-heading ult-adjust-bottom-margin ultimate-heading-88086a210a0c5bd36 uvc-4497\" data-hspacer=\"no_spacer\"  data-halign=\"left\" style=\"text-align:left\"><div class=\"uvc-heading-spacer no_spacer\" style=\"top\"><\/div><div class=\"uvc-main-heading ult-responsive\"  data-ultimate-target='.uvc-heading.ultimate-heading-88086a210a0c5bd36 h2'  data-responsive-json-new='{\"font-size\":\"\",\"line-height\":\"\"}' ><h2 style=\"font-weight:bold;color:#1e73be;\">Relation avec l'exploitation mini\u00e8re<\/h2><\/div><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Le soufre s'attache aux ions m\u00e9talliques, cr\u00e9ant un certain nombre de min\u00e9raux sulfur\u00e9s importants tels que la gal\u00e8ne (sulfure de plomb), la pyrite (sulfure de fer), la chalcocite (sulfure de cuivre) et la sphal\u00e9rite (sulfure de zinc).  Le soufre extrait provient principalement de d\u00f4mes de sel ou de gisements en couches. La grande majorit\u00e9 est produite comme sous-produit du raffinage du p\u00e9trole et du traitement du gaz naturel.<\/p>\n<p>L'extraction du soufre fait appel \u00e0 trois techniques mini\u00e8res diff\u00e9rentes : les m\u00e9thodes souterraines conventionnelles, les m\u00e9thodes \u00e0 ciel ouvert conventionnelles et la m\u00e9thode d'extraction Frasch (ou fusion souterraine). Dans ce processus, de l'eau chaude est inject\u00e9e dans le gisement de soufre. L'acide sulfurique a de multiples usages dans la production de produits chimiques, de produits p\u00e9troliers et dans une large gamme d'autres applications industrielles. Le soufre est principalement utilis\u00e9 dans la fabrication de produits chimiques pour l'agriculture, principalement pour les engrais. Le soufre est \u00e9galement utilis\u00e9 pour le raffinage du p\u00e9trole, l'extraction des m\u00e9taux et la production de produits chimiques organiques et inorganiques.
