Sering kali mengandung fenokris (kristal besar yang mencolok), Andesit merupakan batuan induk bagi Andesine, batu permata yang berharga. Vulkanisme andesit berhubungan erat dengan endapan tembaga porfiri dan merupakan batuan induk bagi sebagian besar bijih tembaga dunia.
