Sentuhan tangan akan menyebabkan kristal belerang retak karena permukaan kristal lebih cepat menghangat daripada bagian dalamnya. Belerang meleleh pada suhu 108 derajat Celcius. Belerang berarti \"batu yang terbakar\" yang mengacu pada sumbernya yang berasal dari gunung berapi dan mudah terbakar. Belerang yang ditambang sebagian besar berasal dari kubah garam atau endapan di bawah tanah. Sebagian besar diproduksi sebagai produk sampingan dari penyulingan minyak dan pengolahan gas alam.<\/p>\n<p>Penambangan belerang menggunakan tiga teknik penambangan yang berbeda: metode bawah tanah konvensional, metode tambang terbuka konvensional, dan metode penambangan Frasch (atau peleburan bawah tanah). Dalam proses ini, air panas dialirkan ke dalam endapan belerang. Asam sulfat memiliki banyak kegunaan dalam produksi bahan kimia, produk minyak bumi, dan berbagai aplikasi industri lainnya. Penggunaan utama belerang adalah untuk membuat bahan kimia untuk pertanian, sebagian besar untuk pupuk.
