No entanto, apenas dois minerais - celestite e strontianite - cont\u00eam estr\u00f4ncio em quantidades suficientes para tornar a recupera\u00e7\u00e3o pr\u00e1tica, e estes minerais encontram-se predominantemente em rochas sedimentares. O estr\u00f4ncio \u00e9 um elemento met\u00e1lico amarelo-prateado. O estr\u00f4ncio pertence a um grupo de elementos conhecidos como metais alcalino-terrosos. Dos dois, a celestite \u00e9 mais comum em dep\u00f3sitos econ\u00f3micos. A sua estrutura \u00e9 semelhante \u00e0 da barite, o mineral de sulfato de b\u00e1rio. Algum estr\u00f4ncio \u00e9 utilizado para fabricar \u00edmanes especiais chamados \u00edmanes de cer\u00e2mica de ferrite. O estr\u00f4ncio foi utilizado para fabricar compostos que s\u00e3o aplicados nos tubos de vidro dos aparelhos de televis\u00e3o a cores.
