O toque de uma m\u00e3o far\u00e1 com que um cristal de enxofre rache porque a superf\u00edcie do cristal aquece mais rapidamente do que o interior. O enxofre derrete a 108 graus Celsius. Enxofre significa \"pedra ardente\" em refer\u00eancia \u00e0 sua origem nos vulc\u00f5es e ao facto de arder t\u00e3o facilmente. O \u00e1cido sulf\u00farico tem m\u00faltiplas utiliza\u00e7\u00f5es na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de produtos qu\u00edmicos, produtos petrol\u00edferos e uma vasta gama de outras aplica\u00e7\u00f5es industriais. A principal utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o do enxofre \u00e9 no fabrico de produtos qu\u00edmicos para a agricultura, principalmente para fertilizantes. Outras utiliza\u00e7\u00f5es do enxofre incluem a refina\u00e7\u00e3o do petr\u00f3leo, a extra\u00e7\u00e3o de metais e a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de produtos qu\u00edmicos org\u00e2nicos e inorg\u00e2nicos.
