Esta carater\u00edstica explica a sensa\u00e7\u00e3o gordurosa carater\u00edstica da grafite. Esta carater\u00edstica gordurosa faz da grafite um bom lubrificante. Por ser um material s\u00f3lido, \u00e9 conhecido como um lubrificante seco. Isto \u00e9 \u00fatil em aplica\u00e7\u00f5es onde os lubrificantes \"h\u00famidos\", como o \u00f3leo, n\u00e3o podem ser utilizados. A grafite foi extra\u00edda no subsolo em Dillon, Montana, durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, mas pouco depois a extra\u00e7\u00e3o cessou por ser demasiado dispendiosa para competir com a grafite do Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p>As opera\u00e7\u00f5es em Madag\u00e1scar s\u00e3o inteiramente a c\u00e9u aberto, mas na Baviera, Coreia, M\u00e9xico e Sri Lanka, devido \u00e0 profundidade e \u00e0s caracter\u00edsticas f\u00edsicas dos dep\u00f3sitos, pratica-se a extra\u00e7\u00e3o subterr\u00e2nea. As opera\u00e7\u00f5es mineiras subterr\u00e2neas mexicanas situam-se a 100-400 m abaixo da superf\u00edcie, medidos no \u00e2ngulo do veio. Algumas das minas mais antigas do Sri Lanka atingiram profundidades superiores a 450 m num plano vertical. Durante muitos anos, as opera\u00e7\u00f5es mineiras no Sri Lanka eram primitivas e a extra\u00e7\u00e3o do min\u00e9rio era lenta e pesada. Este aumento resultou da melhoria das condi\u00e7\u00f5es econ\u00f3micas globais e do seu impacto nas ind\u00fastrias que utilizam grafite.<\/p>\n<p>As principais fontes de importa\u00e7\u00e3o de grafite natural foram, por ordem decrescente de tonelagem, a China, o M\u00e9xico, o Canad\u00e1, o Brasil e Madag\u00e1scar, que, no seu conjunto, representaram 97% da tonelagem e 90% do valor total das importa\u00e7\u00f5es. O M\u00e9xico e o Vietname forneceram toda a grafite amorfa e o Sri Lanka forneceu toda a grafite em peda\u00e7os e em p\u00f3. A China, o Canad\u00e1 e Madag\u00e1scar foram, por ordem decrescente de tonelagem, os principais fornecedores de grafite cristalina em flocos e em p\u00f3 de flocos.<\/p>\n<p>Durante 2013, a China produziu a maior parte da grafite do mundo.
