A lepidolite e o espodum\u00e9nio s\u00e3o outros minerais comuns que cont\u00eam l\u00edtio. As quantidades comerciais destes tr\u00eas minerais encontram-se num dep\u00f3sito especial de rocha \u00edgnea a que os ge\u00f3logos chamam pegmatite. Nos pegmatitos, o magma arrefece t\u00e3o lentamente que os cristais t\u00eam tempo para crescer muito. Como a lepidolita \u00e9 um tipo de mica, os seus cristais crescem em folhas longas e finas.<\/p>\n<p>Os recursos de l\u00edtio s\u00e3o pormenorizados nos resumos de produtos minerais do USGS.<\/p>\n<p>Extra\u00e7\u00e3o de l\u00edtio:<\/p>\n<p>O l\u00edtio \u00e9 frequentemente recuperado a partir de salmoura, ou \u00e1gua com uma elevada concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de carbonato de l\u00edtio. As salmouras subterr\u00e2neas aprisionadas na crosta terrestre s\u00e3o a principal fonte de carbonato de l\u00edtio. A extra\u00e7\u00e3o destas fontes \u00e9 menos dispendiosa do que a de rochas como o espodum\u00e9nio, a petalite e outros minerais que cont\u00eam l\u00edtio.<\/p>\n<p>A produ\u00e7\u00e3o de l\u00edtio em salmoura come\u00e7a por bombear a salmoura para tanques de evapora\u00e7\u00e3o. Ao longo de 12 a 18 meses, a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o da salmoura aumenta para 6.000 ppm de Li atrav\u00e9s da evapora\u00e7\u00e3o solar.
