S\u00e3o todos minerais de silicato, conhecidos como silicatos de folha porque se formam em camadas distintas. As micas s\u00e3o bastante leves e relativamente macias, e as folhas e flocos de mica s\u00e3o flex\u00edveis. A mica \u00e9 resistente ao calor e n\u00e3o conduz eletricidade. Existem 37 minerais de mica diferentes. Cada ind\u00fastria, embora dependente uma da outra, produz produtos finais diferentes.<\/p>\n<p>Folha de minera\u00e7\u00e3o de mica:<\/p>\n<p>A recupera\u00e7\u00e3o da mica em placas \u00e9 efectuada atrav\u00e9s da abertura de um po\u00e7o ao longo do ataque e do mergulho de um pegmatite ou atrav\u00e9s da extra\u00e7\u00e3o a c\u00e9u aberto \u00e0 superf\u00edcie de min\u00e9rio de pegmatite semi-duro. Em qualquer dos casos, trata-se de um processo de extra\u00e7\u00e3o muito arriscado do ponto de vista econ\u00f3mico, devido aos custos envolvidos na localiza\u00e7\u00e3o do fil\u00e3o e \u00e0 imprevisibilidade da qualidade e da quantidade de mica que pode ser recuperada depois de o fil\u00e3o ser localizado e trabalhado.<\/p>\n<p>Na extra\u00e7\u00e3o subterr\u00e2nea, o po\u00e7o principal \u00e9 conduzido atrav\u00e9s do pegmatite em \u00e2ngulos adequados em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao mergulho e ao ataque, utilizando perfuradoras pneum\u00e1ticas, guinchos e explosivos. A maior parte da mica em folha \u00e9 extra\u00edda na \u00cdndia, onde os custos de m\u00e3o de obra s\u00e3o comparativamente baixos.<\/p>\n<p>Explora\u00e7\u00e3o mineira de mica em flocos:<\/p>\n<p>A mica em flocos produzida nos EUA prov\u00e9m de v\u00e1rias fontes: a rocha metam\u00f3rfica chamada xisto, como subproduto do processamento de recursos de feldspato e caulino, de dep\u00f3sitos de placer e de pegmatitos.
