O tit\u00e2nio \u00e9 resistente \u00e0 corros\u00e3o em \u00e1gua do mar, \u00e1gua r\u00e9gia e cloro.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h3>Rela\u00e7\u00e3o com a explora\u00e7\u00e3o mineira<\/h3>\n<p>O tit\u00e2nio \u00e9 o nono elemento mais abundante na crosta terrestre (0,63% em massa) e o s\u00e9timo metal mais abundante. Est\u00e1 presente sob a forma de \u00f3xidos na maioria das rochas \u00edgneas, nos sedimentos delas derivados, nos seres vivos e nas massas de \u00e1gua naturais. Dos 801 tipos de rochas \u00edgneas analisadas pelo United States Geological Survey, 784 continham tit\u00e2nio. A sua propor\u00e7\u00e3o nos solos \u00e9 de aproximadamente 0,5 a 1,5%.<\/p>\n<p>Os minerais comuns que cont\u00eam tit\u00e2nio s\u00e3o a anatase, a brookite, a ilmenite, a perovskite, o rutilo e a titanite (esfeno). Akaogiite \u00e9 um mineral extremamente raro que consiste em di\u00f3xido de tit\u00e2nio. Destes minerais, apenas o rutilo e a ilmenite t\u00eam import\u00e2ncia econ\u00f3mica, mas mesmo estes s\u00e3o dif\u00edceis de encontrar em concentra\u00e7\u00f5es elevadas. Em 2011, foram extra\u00eddos cerca de 6,0 e 0,7 milh\u00f5es de toneladas destes minerais, respetivamente. Existem dep\u00f3sitos significativos de ilmenite com tit\u00e2nio na Austr\u00e1lia Ocidental, Canad\u00e1, China, \u00cdndia, Mo\u00e7ambique, Nova Zel\u00e2ndia, Noruega, Serra Leoa, \u00c1frica do Sul e Ucr\u00e2nia. Cerca de 186.000 toneladas de esponja met\u00e1lica de tit\u00e2nio foram produzidas em 2011, principalmente na China (60.000 t), Jap\u00e3o (56.000 t), R\u00fassia (40.000 t), Estados Unidos (32.000 t) e Cazaquist\u00e3o (20.700 t).
