Sapphire, a precious gemstone from the corundum mineral family, is renowned for its deep blue hues, exceptional hardness, and symbolic significance. Second only to diamond in hardness (9 on the Mohs scale), sapphires are prized for their durability and brilliance.

1. Pemisahan Gravitasi

This is currently the most widely used sapphire beneficiation technology in the industry, especially suitable for placer deposits. Because sapphire has a significantly higher density than common surrounding rocks, gravity separation can achieve highly efficient enrichment. Commonly used equipment includes:

Pemisah jig: Suitable for coarse-grained materials (0–50 mm), achieving stratification through pulsating water flow.

Pulsating sluice/reciprocating separator: Used for further enrichment of fine-grained sapphire.

Centrifugal separator: Used to capture micro-fine sapphire (<3.2 mm).

4. Magnetic and Electrostatic Separation (Auxiliary Methods)

If the ore contains magnetic or conductive minerals (such as ilmenite or spinel), magnetic or electrostatic separation can be used for auxiliary separation, but this is not a mainstream method.

This is one Sapphire crushing and washing plant. This flowsheet is designed based on the client’s requirement and includes five parts: feeding, crushing, screening, separation, and tailings dewatering.

The raw materials feed into a hopper by an excavator or wheel loader. There is a grizzly bar on the hopper to screen out big stones, with a grizzly bar gap of 70mm. Larger than 70mm go to the penghancur rahang for crushing, and smaller than 70mm go to the vibrating screen for washing and screening.

The material larger than 70 mm goes to the jaw crusher and is crushed to around 40mm. The output from the jaw crusher goes to the vibration screen.

Screening and Washing

The over-screen particles, which are more than 25mm, are the waste stones. The under-screen of less than 2mm goes to the belt conveyor.

2-25mm material goes to another vibration screen via a belt conveyor.
The second vibration screen for washing and screening is a screen with a layer deck: 2mm, 6mm, and 10mm screen apertures.

Pemisahan

0-2mm is wastewater, 2-6mm, 6-10mm, and 10-25mm enter different jig separators separately. The more the average input feeding particle size to one jig separator, the better the separation effect will be.

Tailings Dewatering

All the tailings from the jig separators will go to a layar dewatering for dewatering. The under-screen tailings water will go to the Sedimentation tank.
The overscreen sand will be transported away by a belt conveyor.
