Alluvial Gold Mining & Processing

Published time:12 December 2023

Alluvial gold is produced at the bottom of rivers or low-lying areas, mixed with stone sand and washed out. Placer gold originates from mines. It is because the gold ore is exposed on the ground. The rock is weathered and cracked after a long wind and rain. The gold breaks away from the veins and flows down the river with the sand. It naturally settles in the gravel, at the bottom of the river, or under the rock. It was deposited as a gold-bearing layer, forming alluvial gold. The characteristics of alluvial gold are particles of different sizes, big ones like broad beans, and small ones like fine sand, with different shapes. The color varies depending on the fineness. More than 90% is reddish yellow, 80% is light yellow, and 70% is greenish yellow.

Alluvial Gold Mining Precautions

Things to note when mining alluvial gold are as follows:

Before mining

  • Choose a suitable mining site. Alluvial gold mining sites should be located in river beds, lakes, and other areas where alluvial gold is distributed.
  • Conduct exploration. Collect information on alluvial gold distribution, content, and mining conditions during prospecting.
  • Follow relevant procedures. Alluvial gold mining generally requires appropriate procedures, such as mining licenses.

Mining

  • Pay attention to safety. Alluvial gold mining is a high-risk operation. Follow safety operating procedures strictly and take safety protection measures.
  • Select mining methods rationally. Alluvial gold mining methods include excavation, panning, etc. Select the appropriate process according to the specific conditions of the mining site.
  • Pay attention to environmental protection. Alluvial gold mining will produce particular pollution and take measures to prevent environmental pollution.

After mining

  • Remediation of mining areas. After mining, the mining area must be repaired and restored to its original appearance.
  • Conduct statistical analysis. Perform statistical analysis on the mining situation to provide a reference for future mining.

The precautions for alluvial gold mining should also be determined according to the specific mining conditions, and the operation must be combined with the actual situation.

Alluvial Gold Mining Equipment

Types of alluvial gold mining equipment

Placer gold mining equipment is mainly used for the mining and recovery of placer gold. There are many types of placer gold mining equipment. According to different mining methods and processes, we can divide it into the following categories:

  • Excavation equipment
Excavation equipment mines placer gold deposits, including excavators, loaders, bulldozers, etc. Excavators can mine open-pit gold deposits, and loaders and bulldozers can mine underground placer gold deposits.
  • Elutriation equipment
Elutriation equipment separates placer gold from sand, including shakers, spiral separators, centrifuges, etc. The shaker is a traditional elutriation equipment with the advantages of simple structure and easy operation. The spiral separator has the advantages of high separation efficiency and a high recovery rate. The centrifuge has the advantages of high separation efficiency and easy operation.
  • Other devices
Other equipment is mainly used for the transportation and storage of alluvial gold, including trucks, conveyor belts, storage silos, etc.

Factors affecting the selection of alluvial gold mining equipment

The selection of alluvial/placer gold mining equipment should be based on the specific conditions of the mining site, mainly considering the following factors:

  • Mining method
Different mining methods require additional equipment. For example, the excavation method requires excavation equipment, and the elutriation method requires elutriation equipment.
  • Deposit type
Different types of mineral deposits have additional requirements for equipment. For example, open-pit mines can use excavation equipment, while underground mines require more professional equipment.
  • Deposit size
The larger the deposit, the more equipment is required.
  • Economic cost
The price and maintenance costs of the equipment also need to be considered.

When using alluvial gold mining equipment, pay attention to safety and environmental protection and follow safe operating procedures strictly to avoid safety accidents. At the same time, take measures to prevent environmental pollution.

Alluvial Gold Washing Processing

Alluvial Gold Washing

This setup is a 100TPH gold wash plant; in this processing plant, we use a Trommel screen to screen out the rocks above 20mm, a centrifugal concentrator, and a shaking table—sluice box to capture fine gold concentrates and gold particles.

The Trommel screen is designed with mobile wheels, which are easy to move. Also, it can be made stationary type as requested. First, we use a loader to feed the raw material to the trommel screen, We made two layers of screens, 6mm and 20mm respectively. After the screen, transport the material above 20mm as waste sand by belt conveyor. Then, the 6-20mm material will be input into the gold sluice box by height difference to catch the gold particles. This is the first part we can get gold from.

Next, we use a slurry pump to pump the last material below 6mm onto the centrifugal concentrator. We designed the centrifugal concentrator and shaking table on the same platform with mobile wheels, which are easy to move and cost-saving. Centrifugal concentrator can concentrate gold particles of 0-6mm. The pulp under the screen enters the shaking table through the pipe, the shaking table can concentrate the gold powder between 0-2mm. Then the material on the screen flows to the sluice box through the pipe and is recycled again.

The trommel screen, centrifugal concentrator, and shaking table can change to different models and increase quantity according to different capacities.

The sluice box can be designed with different lengths and widths like 2m,4m,6m length, 1m width, or 0.5m width.

This washing plant is very suitable for recovering alluvial gold ore that doesn`t contain sticky clay. If the raw ore contains much sticky clay, we recommend a trommel scrubber instead of a trommel screen because it needs to be washed clay first.

The capacity for this washing plant can be customized as per request such as 10tph, 50tph,100tph, etc.
